Matthews and Marner Hit ‘Em With The Four (Points)

Hit ’em with the four like Auston Matthews (and Mitch Marner)– sorry, I had to.

Mitch Marner and Auston Matthews went X-Games mode tonight and scooped up 4 points a piece in Toronto’s 7-3 W against Ottawa.

Matthews, on a 15-game point streak, ended the night with 2 goals and 2 assists. The video above is goal one and below is goal number 2. These two were just about 9 minutes apart.

Meanwhile his buddy Marner also had a goal and 3 assists. Mitch helped Captain John Tavares end his several game goal drought in the dying minutes of the 3rd. Check out Mitch’s goal because it is silky smooth.

Both the young guns also helped out Joe Thornton in becoming the oldest Leafs player to have 3 points in a night. Thornton had a goal (assists from Marner and Muzzin) and 2 assists (one per Matthews’ goal.)

These two have been so electric to start this season. One way or another, every night they’re on the score sheet and they’re making the most of it. Marner and Matthews are fighting to overtake Edmonton’s Golden Boys for the NHL’s point leads. Give them a few more games and I say they beat them out.

Toronto moves onto Montreal next and those games are bound to be entertaining. Toronto is 13-3-2 while the Habs are 9-4-2, both teams are high scoring so I’ll expect even more highlight reel goals. Regardless, what a great game for the Leafs, can’t wait to watch a few more.
