A stunning 3rd period comeback against the Nashville Predators is the peeerfect thing Hawks fans needed to finish our Wednesday night. Playoffs are on the horizon and seeing this team fight to stay alive is sweet to see. Let’s get into what went down.
Heading into the 3rd period, the Nashville Predators led the Chicago Blackhawks 3-1. The only Chicago goal came from Pius Suter and that was back in the first 5 minutes of the game. It started looking even more glum when Luke Kunin scored to make it 4-1 just a minute into the 3rd.
Nevertheless, just like I said in my blog about the Devils’ near-comeback last night, it ain’t over til it’s over baby. Wyatt Kalynuk cut the score to 4-2 with 10 minutes to go in the final frame. Then the returning Chicago kid, Vinnie Hinostroza, got his first with the Hawks a minute later. Finally, a minute after Vinnie, Dominik Kubalik got a goal to tie this game and eventually push it to OT.
Now in OT, who else but my Avenger, my GUY Brandon Hagel to score the game winning goal exactly 3 minutes in and give the Hawks 2 points in the standings.
We’re headed on a track to the playoff race and the Hawks need every point they can get, especially over the Predators and Stars. I think we can get there. Is there times where our play in uninspired and downright messy? Hell yeah but I am optimistic to a fault and I refuse to give up on these guys. Not to mention, rumor has it, we can see Jonathan Toews on the ice again next season. Let’s build confidence this year – at least make the playoffs maybe win a round – and then kick absolute ass next year with the Captain back. Now queue Chelsea Dagger.
