Rangers and Lightning Head Back To NYC Tied 2-2

Ahh, well this was a messy one. The New York Rangers and Tampa Bay Lightning are now tied 2-2 in the Eastern Conference Final after the Lightning won today’s game 4-1.

The Rangers just did not have energy out there tonight. The Lightning scored 3 unanswered goals through the first three periods. The Rangers had quite a few chances to change things, they put up 22 shots through the first two periods. They just looked messy out there, they couldn’t get control of a great chance. Not to mention Andrei Vasilevskiy has found his Game again and was keeping them out on every strong chance they got. It took until they had the man advantage in the third period for the Rangers to get a goal. They had also already pulled Igor Shesterkin to get another guy on the ice. Artemi Panarin followed through on all those shots he’s had recently with a shutout breaker:

The problem was, the Rangers only had 3:33 left in the game and they had not been playing a very strong game to start. They couldn’t get any goals in the final minutes but the Lightning did take advantage of Shesterkin remaining out of the net with their fourth and final goal of the night.

I think getting back to MSG will be good for the Rangers. They have had such a rough time away that they need to get back on their feet in New York. They cannot risk losing to the Lightning at home if they want to keep a Stanley Cup Final playoff dream alive. They need to get back to what they were playing when they left NYC, simple as that. Not a great night for the Rangers but these series are seven games for a reason. Dust yourself off and get back to it.
