THE AVALANCHE HAVE COMPLETED THE SWEEP!!! The Colorado Avalanche have officially swept the Edmonton Oilers to win the Western Conference Final. This game kept you on your toes. It started with the Avalanche taking a 1-0 lead out of the first period with a goal from Cale Makar. The second period turned disastrous for Colorado as the Oilers scored 3 unanswered goals to take a 1-3 lead into the final frame.
The third period is where things got interesting. A 6 goal period in the end. They flipped-flopped the lead constantly. Devon Toews started things off with a goal just 31 seconds into the period.
Zach Hyman added another onto the Oiler’s lead but fear not, the Avs were here to play.
Gabe Landeskog got the Avs within one at the 9-minute mark of the third.
Rallied by their captain, the Avs were quick to tie and re-take the lead. Nate MacKinnon tied the game at 13:30 with his 11th goal of the season.
Then Mikko Rantanen came in and gave the Avs a lead with a power-play goal:
This game was not over yet, no matter how hard we cellied. Zack Kassian tied things up with a goal in the last 4 minutes of the game. Despite many great chances on both sides, neither could win thing game in regulation. So onto OT we go.
Luckily it didn’t take long for Artturi Lehkonen to awaken:
He was the Canadiens’ OT hero last season to send them to the Finals, makes sense he did it again this season.
I could not be happier for these guys. I love the Avalanche so much. Cale Makar was out of his mind tonight, played 29:03, and registered 5 points (1G 4A), 3 hits, and 3 blocked shots. MacKinnon ended up with 7 shots on net and n assist to boot. Gabe Landeskog had himself 3 points (1G 2A), along with 3 shots and 3 hits.
I am just so overjoyed for this Avs team. They’ve been battling for years to get here. All of these guys have grown through every adversity they have faced. They find a way every single time. I am so elated to see this team finally get their chance to win it all. They deserve it. Especially, Erik Johnson, he’s one of my favorite NHL players and he had to fight his way through so much to get here. I am excited to see what happens next against whoever makes it out of Tampa vs Rangers (go Rangers).
