Atkinson Hatty Helps Flyers Collect 3rd Straight Win

Flyers collected their 3rd win in as many games tonight with a 6-1 win over the Devils. During that dastardly 10-game losing streak, the Flyers had played the Devils twice and (obviously) lost both games, 2-5 and 0-3 accordingly. Well after that last loss, the Flyers did come back and start this win streak.

This win tonight is a big thanks to Cam Atkinson‘s hat trick.

Atkinson hit a wall during the 10-game skid but he’s finding his way back. Tonight he scored one goal in the first, a shorthanded one in the second, and that hatty-sealing goal in the third period. He also collected an assist on Oskar Lindblom‘s second of the season in the late 2nd so he finished up with a 4-point night alongside 7 shots on net, one blocked shot in 17:13 of ice time. I love this for Atkinson. He’s been a firecracker since coming to the team and when he’s popping off so are the boys. Let’s get him rolling down the stretch.

Flyers put some decent shots in on MacKenzie Blackwood early. They peppered him in the first, put up 13 shots and got away with 2 goals from it. The Devils did take a bit more of control in the 2nd, evened up the shots at 9 but the Flyer’s offense had more pull when they scored 3 more in those 20 minutes. In the end, Blackwood let in 5 goals on 22 shots and was swapped out for Akira Schmid into the 3rd. Schmid let in one goal on 8 shots. Carter Hart on the other hand stopped 26 of 27 shots he faced. The only one he let in was early in the 2nd to PK Subban but overall I’d say Hart is still running hot.

I don’t know if the Flyers have completely turned a page on this season but it’s nice to be beating teams that they’re better than again. I remember both those loses to the Devils, during the streak being sour ones because the Flyers are so much better than them. Same with Arizona, who they beat last game, and Montreal, who they’ll have to beat next. Montreal is an absolute dumpster fire so they really need to win this one. The Flyers will be traveling up north of the border to play the Habs Saturday night. Let’s pray this win streak goes to 4 because we will be sorely hurting if not. The Flyers have a tendency to get in their heads and crumble, well now is not the time for that. They’re 4-points out of the playoffs, they seem to be sorting themselves out a bit more at least offensively. Now is not the time to be losing to a team as bad as Montreal. For now, same as the last few wins, I’m going to revel in this one.
