Keith Grabs The Long-Awaited Ironman Title

Keith Yandle has done it.

With his start tonight, Yandle has taken sole leadership of the NHL’s Ironman streak with 965 consecutive games played. The last time Keith missed a game was before March 26th, 2009. For reference, I was 9 years old, my now-12-year-old little brother wasn’t even born yet. The first episode of Parks and Rec hadn’t even aired yet (first aired April 9th, 2009), same with Community (September 17th, 2009)and Glee (May 19th, 2009). The same goes for my favorite TV show ever Regular Show, which aired its first episode on August 14th, 2009.

In those 965 games, Keith has put up 572 points from 93 goals and 479 assists. He has gone between 4 different teams and even through a global pandemic in that time. It’s insane through all those years, all those teams and big hits, he hasn’t missed a single game. Seriously, guys get hit and injured every single day. It’s normal to have to miss some time to injury, there’s nothing you can do about it. For him to go nearing 13-years without missing a single game is just insane. He’s a guy that is dedicated to the game, a great teammate, a funny son of a bitch, and very deserving of this honor.

He still has to close out his 965th game with the Flyers as they’re currently losing 3-2 to the Islanders going into the third period. As we all know the Flyers suck right now so for Keith’s special game I’m hoping they pull a win out of this one (and end my suffering but ya know, do it for Keith first.)
