Is there anything The Dogg can’t do? Nate MacKinnon put on a show against the Rangers tonight with this nasty goal in the early second period. Just slices through a Ranger and one hands it into the back of the net to tie this game up 2-2. This goal was a tide turner for the Avalanche. They went on and scored another 4 goals in the remaining 16 minutes of that period. In the end, they took a 7-2 W over New York.
In that high-scoring second period, Nate did take a bad hit from, you guessed it, Jake Trouba. Nate went down immediately and ultimately went down the tunnel but did return for the 3rd. Also as a result of that hit, Gabe Landeskog stood up for his good buddy Nate and dropped the gloves against Trouba. That’s Trouba’s second consequential hit in as many nights. Yesterday, he sent Hawks forward Jujhar Khaira to the hospital on a stretcher after a bad hit. Good on Gabe for standing up for Nate.
I hope that this is finally the year MacKinnon cracks 100 points. He hit 99 and then the pandemic happened so I hope this is the year the poor bastard finally does it. He’s one of the best man players I have ever seen, he’s only 26, and he’s got plenty of years left to leave us dazzling (hopefully with a Cup ring or two thrown in there).
