Young Gun New York Rangers Dominate Tampa Bay Lightning In Game One Of Eastern Conference Finals

Nothing better than playoff hockey! The New York Rangers and Tampa Bay Lightning started their series tonight and the Rangers took full advantage of the Lightning. The Lightning got a nice long break after they swept the Florida Panthers last round but it seems like they chilled out too much.

Despite keeping things even through the first period, the Rangers kicked things into 4th gear during the second. Frank Vantrano gave the Rangers a 2-1 lead at the 7:50 mark but it was quickly followed up with a goal from Ondrej Palat to keep things even. Then who else but Filip Chytil to bury the Lightning’s chances.

Filip Chytil scored at the 10:09 to regain that lead:

Then he bounced back 5 minutes later to give the Rangers an extra juicy 4-to 2 lead.

The Rangers put up 17 shots in that period and it worked in their favor so they tried to do something similar in the third. Despite putting up just 9 shots in the final frame, they were rewarded with two goals – one from Artemi Panarin just 30 seconds into the period.

Mika Zibanejad added on his 8th of the playoffs at 6:06, which gave the Rangers their 6-2 final:

The Rangers are running on pure spite. They just will not be stopped. The Lightning were sleepy out there tonight and they weren’t ready to face Igor Shesterkin, who stopped 29 of 31 shots on net. He has been on top of the world as of late. Same with Chytil. he’s got 7 goals and an assist for 8 points. Zibanejad had himself another night, he’s leading the Rangers with 8 goals and 21 points. The Rangers look hot. They’re not afraid of the Lightning, they don’t give a shit about Vasilevsky’s records – they’re here to try to win the Stanley Cup and they’re not gonna let much stop them.
