Flames Fall Behind 2-1 In Alberta Smackdown

The Calgary Flames were absolutely dominated in Game 3 against the Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers left this game with a 4-1 win thanks to an Evander Kane natural hatty, much to my chagrin. I was hoping the Flames were going to bring more bite out in this game.

The first period was the start of a rocky night for the Flames. They were outshot 21-7 in the first 20 minutes. Jacob Markstrom was able to stop all those first shots but the second period was not kinder to him. Zach Hyman was the one to start the scoring with a goal in the early second period. After that, Kane got his hatty and suddenly the Flames are down 4-0. They had more shots than their last period but nothing to get tangibly close to closing that 4 goal gap.

The third was not much of an improvement. They brought in Daniel Vladar for the final 20 minutes and he was able to stop 7 shots. He hadn’t played a minute in the playoffs until the start of the third but I think he did well in his debut. Oliver Kylington did manage to get a goal on the board but in a good chunk of the period, the Flames’ special teams were missing shot after shot. They had so many chances to get things going but they just couldn’t get it done. Now they trail 2-1 in this series with the Oilers headed into another game in Edmonton. They need to tie things up before they lose all momentum and control they once had. Their energy wasn’t there tonight and things quickly got out of hand. They have a day off between games and if they just recenter where they need to be, I’m sure things will be just fine.
