The Colorado Avalanche has started the second round with a stunner. In a 3-2 OT win in Game 1 of their series against the St. Louis Blues, the Avalanche showed that the 8 day break didn’t slow them down.
The Blues started strong by scoring the only goal in the first period. Darcy Kuemper in his returning period faced 8 shots and allowed just the one. They flipped the script for the second period. Val Nichushkin got the Avalanche on the board at the 3:14 mark.
The fantastic Sammy Girard swooped in to grab the Avalanche the lead 8 minutes later.
The Avs were able to leave the second with the lead. They were a powerhouse in this period, they put up 19 shots on net, resulting in 2 goals. They kept the Blues out of the net despite the 9 shots they put up.
Despite putting up 14 shots in the third period, the Avalanche just could not get a goal. They Blue, however, did. With just under 4 minutes to go in the period, Jordan Kyrou tied things up. The Avalanche could not grab back the lead, despite getting a late power play. They went into OT on the power play but it would take until Josh Manson gained control of the puck at 8:02:
The Avs did phenomenal all of OT. They didn’t allow the Blues to put up a shot, putting up 13 of their own in return. The Avs are a steam train. They are looking to finally break out of the second round and battle further for the Cup. They’ve just won their fifth straight playoff game, I’m liking what I’m seeing.
