Should’ve known better than to trust my happiness in the Leafs. In a very intense seven-game series between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Tampa Bay Lightning, I was cheering ruthlessly for the Leafs. Things, as we can see, did not go in my favor.
With their 1-2 loss in game seven earlier tonight, the Maple Leafs have once again been eliminated in the first round. I thought the Leafs did very well against the reigning Cup champs despite losing the series. They went down swinging and they kept things even all series. They didn’t ‘leaf’ this up. From the moment this series was announced they needed Matthews and Marner to be on another level to get out of this series alive. They did a lot better than in the past, but it wasn’t enough.
I hope this loss was enough to propel them to success next season. They’ve made progress and they see that they can stay with these better teams. Marner said in his post-game that the Leafs are sick and tired of feeling like this. This has to be their motivation moving forward if they want to be a successful team.
With the Leafs’ loss, the Battle For Florida will be back in the second round of the playoffs. The reigning Cup champs and the Presidents’ trophy winners will battle it out in a seven-game series. It’s bound to get really good. That being said I am going all-in on the Panthers. Let’s go Cats. I need to see Claude Giroux win, he deserves it.
