The US has started things off strong over at the World Championships in Finland. Today, the US defeated Latvia in a 4-1 final. The US started things off hot with 3 goals in the first period. Riley Barber opened things up with goal number one, then Seth Jones and Thomas Bordeleau followed behind him to make things 3-0 a little over halfway into the first 20 minutes.
Sam Lafferty added the US’s fourth goal just 33 seconds into the second period.
The US did not let up on Latvia in this game. They gave up one goal in the third period but that was it. Strauss Mann stood tall in net once more, stopping 24 of 25 shots on net. Seth Jones was named the first star of the game as he had a goal and assist in 23:39 of ice time. Latvia is not a huge competitor for the US but grabbing a sound win in game one of the tournament is always important. The US has put together a solid roster, they have guys of all ages, some from the NHL, some not, and I have great faith in them to get out of this Championship with some hardware. A solid 4-1 win over Latvia is a great place to start.
