The Toronto Maple Leafs have taken a 2-1 lead in their series against the Tampa Bay Lightning after an electric 5-2 win earlier today. They had a variety of guys hop on the score sheet while Jack Campbell gave them some luck in net.
The Toronto Maple Leafs started the game with a power-play goal from one of their strong leaders, Morgan Rielly. The Leafs needed to come out strong after the last game and they did just that with this slick goal:
Colin Blackwell added some insurance to the lead with his own goal just 5 minutes later.
The Leafs started the game heavy. They had 15 shots on net in the first 20 minutes alone. The Leafs took that energy into the second period where they started off scoring early. David Kampf, who has been hot recently, scored the Leafs’ third unanswered goal just 5 minutes into the second period.
Lightning did strike past with a goal of their own past Campbell before the end of the second period but overall the Leafs kept their cool and maintained a 3-1 lead into the final frame.
Into the third period, Ondrej Palat got the Lightning within one goal of the Leafs’ lead 5 minutes into the first period. Have no need to fear though, Souperman is here. Ilya Mikheyev grabbed his first of the postseason to widen the Leafs’ lead with only 1:40 to go in regulation.
And he was not done there. He swooped in with 5 seconds left in the game to score an empty netter and end this game 5-2. This is an amazing win for the team. They’re looking to take down the reigning Cup Champs, they’re going to need to fight back when they’ve been beat. I love that they aren’t going down easy this time. They’ve got until Sunday to regain their strength and really take control of this series with another win. It will be a thriller but if they just keep fighting this hard, I am sure it will be a good win for me.
