In true Dallas Stars fashion, a whirlwind third period is what lead Tyler Seguin to his 300th career goal.
It wouldn’t be Dallas without chaos on the agenda. Heading into the final frame, Dallas was up by one and they quickly lost that lead when the Oilers scored back-to-back goals just 40 seconds apart. All of a sudden it’s the final 15 minutes of the game and the Stars are down by one. Knowing Dallas this was either going to end in the Oilers scoring 6 more goals or Dallas waking up and kicking on the jets. Thankfully, it was the latter tonight. Roope Hintz comes in and scores a silky smooth goal at the 14:38 mark to tie things once more:
Then 24 seconds after him, Denis Gurianov scores one of his own and the Stars are back in the driver’s seat.
Segs adds on the insurance empty netter and finally gets that elusive 300th career goal. No one has tweeted the goal so you can watch it here.
Seggy has been sitting at 299 for 5 games and he finally got it. He also picked up an assist on Gurianov’s goal for a two-point night. Tyler now has 37 points (19G 18A) in 61 games this season. He’s had some rough seasons the past 2-3 years so I am elated for him to hit this milestone. He is the first guy from the 2010 Draft class to hit 300 goals.
The Stars needed to win this one for their playoff hopes to stay alive, they’re now in the 2nd wildcard spot. They have a tendency to tailspin as the playoffs approach, as many Stars’s fans know, this is sweating season. I’ve liked what we’ve seen from them most of this season, I still got beef with Bowness’s coaching at times but for now, it’s looking okay. They’re 35-24-3 through 62 games this season, they just picked up Vlad Namestnikov and Scott Wedgewood at the deadline to reinforce some holes in the wallpaper. Tonight was a good win and a sick milestone for Seggs as they head back on the road and into the final stretch of the season.
Not to mention, it was Stars’s legendary video coach Kelly Forbes’s 1,000th NHL game. He was awarded the chain tonight and rightfully so. Without him, this team would be an absolute hot mess. Keep up the great work Forbes!
