Schmaltz Finds His Groove

And from the top ropes, we have Nick Schmaltz who has 22 points in his last 10 games.

Not the guy I really expected to see go on a tear right now is none other than Arizona Coyote Nick Schmaltz. This season, with the struggling Coyotes, Schmaltz has put up 41 points in 40 games, 17 goals and 24 assists. This last stretch of games since mid-February has been incredible for him though. As I said, he’s got 22 points (9G 13A) in his last 10 games played. One of those games in the midst of this streak, however, was legendary for the kid. On March 5th, the Yotes played Ottawa in Arizona and Schmaltz was unstoppable. He ended with a 7 point night, 2 goals and 5 assists, with about 20 minutes of ice time. He set a few records in the process:

That wasn’t all for Shmaltzy. In Arizona’s next game, Nick put up 4 points (2G 2A) in 17 minutes of ice time against Detroit. He then registered one assist in each of their next two games before having another multi-point night tonight with a goal (See: Top Tweet) and assist in Arizona’s 5-3 win over Ottawa.

Despite a sluggish start to the season, Shmaltz is really getting into his groove. He missed all of the month of November, leaving him with just 6 points (1G 5A) in his first 11 games of the year. Not to mention that in those 11 games, the Coyotes were 1-8-2. Now since his first game of the 2022 season on January 4th, Schmaltz has put up 35 points (16G 19A) in 29 games. Quite a different change of pace as we get to midseason form. Obviously, the Yotes are not going anywhere with their 19-36-4 record but it’s still nice to see guys get the wheels moving. I liked Schmaltz when he was on the Hawks, I was never a hater of him. He was a guy that came in and tried his best and when he got hot, as we can see now, he was burning. Nice to see him carrying on the same.
