Something, Something, Sad About The Flyers

The Flyers are 4 consecutive losses away from their 3rd 10-game losing streak of their 2021-22 season. Which, okay, that’s a lot more dramatic than it kinda is. Tonight, the Flyers lost their 6th straight game in a 1-4 game against the St. Louis Blues. It’s another biting loss in a season packed full with them. And of course, we’re not at that 3rd 10-game losing streak yet, they could in their next game Saturday, but it’s a little too close for comfort.

The last game Philly won was on February 1st against the Jets, 3-1. That means with one game left to play this month, the Flyers are 1-4-2 on the month of February. Their January record you ask? 1-10-2. Add those two together and they’re 2-15-4 in the year 2022.

There is no magic cure. It’s not a bad stint, you make a trade or fire a coach, and all of a sudden things shift. They did get screwed on injured this year. Wade Allison has been absent all season. Kevin Hayes, a man who (IMO) deserves nice things and soft hugs, keeps tearing apart his abdomen while trying to put this team on his back. Ryan Ellis is a myth to Flyers Twitter, that’s how little we’ve seen him. Sean Couturier is done for the season out of nowhere. Then Joel Farabee, the Flyers’ one hope at times, gets screwed with injuries time and time again. Now Carter Hart has an eye infection. That’s fine, it’s fine, everything’s fine…

There’s nothing they can really do about the injuries. They can’t go in and change the coach again. You can sell the team, Comcast, just saying would help. But at this point, I’m past hoping for miracles this season. It just has to be back to the drawing board for next year. They’re no way they would stand a chance against some other teams even if they magically made it to the playoffs. And I don’t want to hop on the #TankFor[InsertBasicMaleNameHere] trains because I really don’t want to give up when there’s still more hockey to be played. I want to be hopeful and optimistic but anytime they get somewhere near stable (IE win a game or two), there is some way they shoot themselves in the foot, and everything free falls again.

As I mentioned earlier, the Flyers’ next game will be Saturday the 26th against the Washington Capitals. The Caps are 5-5-0 in their last 10 games, they’ve won their last 2. I don’t want to just sit here and be like “yeah, whatever, probably gonna lose” but it will for sure be a battle to keep an eye on. Maybe Carter Hart will be back to help out in net.
