The ECHL’s Trois-Rivieres Lions are reportedly interested in acquiring one of the best Canadian players in the world, Marie-Philip Poulin. This comes just a few days shy of Poulin, a 30-year-old center from Beauceville, Quebec, leading the Canadien women’s national team to yet another Olympic Gold Medal in Beijing. While captaining the Canadian club for the second time at the Olympics, she put up 17 points (6G 11A) in 7 games, two of her goals were scored in the Gold Medal game on Wednesday night. This Olympic Gold medal brings her total count to 3. She also has 1 Olympic Silver, 2 World Championship Golds, 6 silver, and 1 bronze. She won a silver at the U18 World Junior Championships in 2009. And last but not least, she won 2 CWHL titles with the Montreal Canadiennes before that league folded a few years back.
Nowadays when she’s not leading Canada in the decimation of every single team they face, she’s a part of the PWHPA’s Montreal hub but it seems that an ECHL GM would like to sway her to their side. The team in question, as I previously mentioned, are the Trois-Rivieres Lions, based in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec. The team is 20-13 through their first 36 games and they’re an affiliate of the Laval Rockets in the AHL and Montreal Canadiens in the NHL.
Well for starters I think Marie-Philip Poulin is a lot better than ECHL level. Anywhere she plays, she blows the competition out of the water. Take a look at her stats across various leagues and divisions throughout the years.
Everywhere she goes, success and highlight-reel goals follow. She’s one of the most skilled forwards we have ever seen. Not to mention she’s a natural leader on and off the ice. Honestly, let her go to the ECHL and we’ll see just how much better she is than everyone else. Let her get called up to the AHL. I think she’d do incredible wherever she played but I think she’ll tear through this league like it’s nothing. I’d love to see her take up this challenge so this is definitely something we’ll all need to keep an eye on in the coming days.
