The Philadelphia Flyers are playing the Pittsburgh Penguins on the Pen’s home ice and I’m sure Penguins’ captain Sidney Crosby is going to score his 500th goal no problem against his longtime rivals. It will also add some icing on the cake for Flyers’ fans right about now.
The Flyers, currently 15-24-8, are having an all-time disastrous season, close to losing their longtime captain Claude Giroux to (I’m hoping) Colorado, and there looks to be no end in sight. The Penguins, on the other hand, are 30-11-8 on the season, currently on a 3 game win streak. And as aforementioned, Sidney Crosby is just one goal away from hitting 500 in his career. Knowing the Hockey Gods and the universe’s general disdain for this orange team, I have a feeling it’s going to happen tonight in this season’s 3rd installment of the Battle of PA.
Crosby has been waiting at 499 for 2 games, he registered 3 assists in them anyway, but it’s poetic that it would come against Philly. Two teams on opposite sides of the state, who happen to be on opposite sides of the standings from one another.
While Sid aims to tick off that accomplishment, all of Philly is waiting on the final word about Claude’s future. He is still undecided but signs are pointing towards Colorado and as much as it would suck to lose him in Philly, I’d be happy with him going there.
Colorado has a real chance at the Cup, I think he’d slide in nice, and bonus I enjoy that team and it’s not St. Louis. There is still no official word on where they’re going from here, sources claim different things back and forth but for now, he’s still in Philly. I hope he’ll play his 1,000th game there at least. Then, who’s to say what happens.
The Flyers vs Penguins game just kicked off so keep an eye out for Crosby on the goal sheet. It would be a nail in the coffin poem to see him accomplish that milestone tonight, whether it’s good or bad depends on your jersey color.
