Following their 3-2 victory over Germany this morning, the US men’s hockey team has taken the top spot in Group A with a trip to the quarter-finals.
The US is 3-0 at the Olympics after beating China 8-0 on the 10th, Canada 2-4 on the 12th, and now Germany 3-2 this morning. They have been a force to be rekoned with. They’ve got incredible depth scoring across the board. Sean Farrell leads the team in points, he’s got 6 points (3G 3A) in these 3 games. He had a hatty in the first game against China and has done pretty well so far. Brendan Brisson and Ben Meyes have also been doing well, both have 2 goals so far. 8 other players have at least registered a goal, 19 have at least a point. Their scoring comes from across the board, they always find a way. Their defense has been strong, especially when Jake Sanderson showed up running on little sleep and a dream.
I love the goaltending duo of Drew Commesso and Strauss Mann. Commesso has been the leader, two games so far only 1 goal allowed. Mann was up against the Canadians, he registered a .946 save percentage in that game and only allowed 2 goals. I have trust in both of them to take care of any team they have to face. They have faced 92 shots combined and only allowed 4 goals.
Their team just has a solid composure, they’re going to do well against anyone they face. In the Quarter-finals, the US will face either Slovakia or Germany, depending on who wins tomorrow night. We’ve seen the US take down Germany and I’m sure they could do the same with Slovakia. The US is set to play again on the 15th US time against whoever wins that game so hopefully no wind leaks out of their sails. They’ve got the skill and the power to go far so I am excited to see more.
