Another Michigan Wolverine joins the Olympics.
Hockey Canada announced yesterday that they have added Kent Johnson to their active roster after some of their other players have yet to arrive in Beijing. Oh boy am I excited for him. Kent Johnson is one of my favorite college hockey players at the moment. Last season he wowed me when I started watching Michigan and he’s kept that astonishment and attention since minute one. This season with the University of Michigan, Johnson has 30 points (6G 24A) in 23 games. He’s without a doubt one of the best players on their team. We haven’t gotten to see him too much with Team Canada, he only got 2 games at the World Juniors before they canceled them — but still managed a goal in that time.
I’m excited for him to get called up to the active roster, that’s still a big deal. Team Canada doesn’t play until Thursday, February 10th at 7:10AM CT when they take on Germany in their first game. The US and Canada do play one another that following day, the 11th at 10:10PM CT. It would be fun to watch Johnson take on some of his American teammates at the Olympics too. I’m hoping Johnson cracks this roster at least for a few games. I think he’s a youthful boost to their lineup and he can only bring good things with him.
