Flames Have A Good Night In Columbus

Tonight the Calgary Flames beat the wheels off the Blue Jackets with a 6-0 win. And that doesn’t happen without Matthew Tkachuk, Johnny Gaudreau, and Jacob Markstrom being on this tear.

Gaudreau and Tkachuk finished the night with 3 and 2 points, respectively. Johnny Hockey put up 3 incredible assists including this one:

In his last 6 games, Johnny Gaudreau has put up 14 points, 2 goals and 12 assists with an average of about 18 minutes of ice time. Meanwhile, his blonde counterpart, Matthew Tkachuk, who had 2 goals tonight, has put up 15 points in his last 6 games; 6 of which goals and the remaining 9 assists. Here’s a look at those two American boys linking up to score tonight:

They’ve been a big part of why the Flames have been fun to watch as of late. These two go out there and just make magic happen. Their energy has spread throughout this lineup and the goals just keep on coming. Tonight, as a team, the Flames put up 62 shots on net, a franchise record. They had 5 different goal scorers. As I said in this blog about Tkachuk earlier this month, the Flames have been blowing teams out of the water recently. Not only does that rest on their offense but their goaltending too.

Markstrom stopped all 23 shots he faced tonight and he advanced his record to 15-9-5 on the season. He has been another pillar for his team to build confidence on. They know they can rely on him to make saves, they trust him to have their backs. As important as the goalscoring is for this team, the work Markstrom is doing is just as important. In tonight’s win, he collected his 6th shutout of the season and continues to lead the league in shutouts.

The Flames beat the St. Louis Blues 7-1 just a few days ago, now they’ve got this 6-0 win in Columbus but, plot twist, they’re heading back to St. Louis for another game tomorrow night. They’re 4-5-0 since the start of 2022. Win or lose Tkachuk, Gaudreau, and Markstrom are fun to watch, they’re why I’ve been keeping an eye on the Flames all season. They still have yet to have any close goal games this year, they either win by 2+ or lose by it. So heading back to St. Louis should be fun to watch tomorrow night. Who knows what those 3 are going to do next.
