Dylan Stromes Scores First NHL Hat Trick In Hawks Win Over Detroit

Eight is my lucky number and I think the Hawks got some of that luck in Detroit tonight. The Hawks started with both feet in the fire. Dominik Kubalik scored the opening goal just 10:24 into the period. He’s always a guy to get things going and you gotta respect the hell out of it. When you need him most, he’s right there:

2 minutes after that Dylan Strome turned on the jets and decimated the Wings. He scored one goal, then came back just under 2 minutes later and scored another. 2 minutes 2 goals for the comeback kid. I’ll never get over Jeremy Colliton scratching him and saying like “oh he’s not ready for the season”. One is unemployed and the other is lighting the lamp tonight. Suck on that haters:

Strome was looking at securing that Hatty goal but his shot rebounded off the Wings goalie. Strome saw a beautiful opportunity for a rebound goal so he passed the puck to Sam Lafferty and suddenly the Hawks are up 4-0 in the first.

The Red Wings came right back in the second period and cut the Hawks’ lead in half 6 minutes in. The Hawks just could not get anything flowing after that. For most of the second period, they were battling in the Red Wings end, fighting to keep their lead intact. Despite the battle, they gave up one more goal from ex-Hawk Puis Suter right at the end of the 2nd.

That means this intense game went into its final frame with the Hawks leading 4-3. The Hawks came back with some energy to start the third. Dylan Strome finally scored that third goal 6:10 into the period to secure his first career hat trick. I love that for him. He’s had such a strange season so it’s great to see him killing it.

3 minutes after that, Alex DeBrincat joined the party with a goal. Jonathan Toews and Caleb Jones helped propel DeBrincat to his 25th goal of the season and it was a beauty:

Right after that, the Red Wings got two back and things were looking stressful. This game started with the whirlwind of a 4-goal first period, now we’re are the tail-end of the third as the Hawks grip onto a 6-5 lead. Fear not because Brandon Hagel and DeBrincat had other ideas. They both scored goals of their own and this game finished up at a fabulous 8-5 in favor of Chicago.

The Hawks can take any win they can get, especially a high-scoring one like this. I thought the Jones brothers were key to this game tonight. They both collected assists on goals, Caleb finished with 1 assist while Seth had 2. They’re really shaping up well with this Hawks team. DeBrincat had 3 points (2G 1A), Dylan Strome had 4 (3G 1A), Brandon Hagel and Patrick Kane had 2 points themselves tonight as well. Although this is a solid win, they still do have things to work on. That second period got way out of hand for them.

Next, they move onto the Colorado Avalanche, who are a powerhouse. It’s going to be a completely different ballgame compared to Detroit and if the Hawks can even get a one-goal lead, they better defend it a hell of a lot better than this 4-goal one.
