And just like that, the Pittsburgh Penguins’ 10-game win streak comes to an end. The Dallas Stars forced a beautiful comeback earlier today which extended their win streak to 4 while ending the Penguins’ 10-game one. When things first started, it was looking like that streak was going to hit 11.
The Penguins started the scoring with two back-to-back goals just 6 minutes into the first. Brain Dumoulin scored the opening goal at 6:02 and Kasperi Kapanen added to that lead with a goal 25 seconds later.
The Stars couldn’t generate any answers until late in the 2nd with a beautiful Denis Gurianov goal. I always said I’m naming my firstborn child after him and he keeps giving me more reasons to:
That goal rejuvenated the Stars and they propelled their energy into the third period. It took Captain America himself, Mr. Joe Pavelski to get this game tied up 14:59 into the final frame.
The final dagger came from Roope Hintz with just under 4 minutes remaining in the game. He parked himself right in front of that net and ensured his team was winning this one without overtime.
The Stars have yet to lose a game in the new year. They were forced to take such a long break due to COVID running rampant in their locker room, I’m happy they’ve come back strong. Dallas now improves to 17-12-2 which is not bad at all. They tend to get streaky so if they keep playing this well all those wins are going to be crucial headed into a crucial part of this season. Their last win streak lasted 7 games, then they lost 5 in a row, and now they’ve won the last 4. No one-offs, only streaks for the Stars.
The Stars will move onto St. Louis tomorrow. They’ll want to keep this streak going and I’m hoping John Klingberg has a kick-ass game so the Stars will show him some love and keep him around for longer. The guy has been carrying Dallas for seasons now and I would be devastated to see him go. Klinger talked about it here:
I’m not going to lose my head about that for now. Onto the next game. More points, more wins, and beating the Blues is always a beautiful thing.
