The Flyers Played The Penguins Today And It Went How We All Expected

Because the NHL’s COVID protocol makes no sense sometimes, the Pittsburgh Penguins played the Philadelphia Flyers tonight. Despite the Flyers being down six players, including captain Claude Giroux, this game carried on per usual and it ended with the Pens collecting their 10th win in a row.

For starters, I have no idea why the NHL had this Pens/Flyers game be played tonight but they postponed the Red Wings vs Ducks game for the same reasons.

Yes I know, I know, it was still played because of Capitalism but there was no way in hell the Flyers stood a chance here. When healthy with the full lineup, they would have barely stood a chance. Without Giroux, Travis Sanheim, Travis Konecny, and Ivan Provorov, this team isn’t themselves. Especially without Claude Giroux. He’s been the backbone of this team thoughts the struggles of this season and they lose their way without him.

As expected with mostly AHL call-ups against a team on a 9-game win streak, the Flyers lost this one 6-2 and the Penguins pushed their win streak to 10 games. The Penguins have been an absolute force to be reckoned with. In that stretch of 10 games, the Penguins have scored 47 goals while only allowing 29 goals against.

You could talk about almost anyone on this roster with gusto but I wanna talk about one guy who has really come into his own the last 2 seasons. Evan Rodrigues continued his reign with another goal and assist tonight. In his first 33 games of the season, he has put up 15 goals and 15 assists for 30 points. However, in his last 6 games alone, he’s put together 11 (7G 4A) of those 30 points. The guy cannot be stopped.

Overall another bad game for the Flyers but they stood no chance here. They’ll move on to San Jose, who they just lost to about a week ago so let’s see how that goes. Meanwhile, the Penguins will move onto the Dallas Stars, who just won an intense game against the Panthers. That Saturday matinee will be a must-watch as the Pens go for that 11th win and the Stars fight to stay undefeated in 2022.
