Matt Boldy’s Magical NHL Debut

Safe to say it’s a good day for Matt Boldy. The 20-year-old, Massachusetts kid just scored his first NHL goal in his first NHL game against his hometown team.

Boldy was called up a few days ago but made his NHL debut with the Minnesota Wild tonight. Boldy is not just from Massachusetts, he also had a phenomenal 2 seasons with Boston College before turning pro. Last season he played with the AHL’s Iowa Wild, took a little break to go help the US win gold at the World Juniors (had a chill 5 goals and 2 assists in those 7 games), but finished his first AHL season with 18 points (6G 12A) in 14 games. Flash forward to this season, the kid started with 10 points (4G 6A) in 10 games before being called up.

In his debut tonight against his hometown Boston Bruins, he scored that glorious goal and registered 4 shots on goal in 13:12 on the ice, even seeing just under 4 minutes of power play time. To add to this fairytale debut, the game was played in Boston so Boldy’s family was there to see this amazing moment in person.

The Wild closed the game out with a win too to put a nice cherry on top of this evening. They, as a team, have been playing well this season, 20-10-2, despite being riddled with injury. Their holy grail Kirill Kaprizov did leave the game early cradling an arm, hopefully it is nothing too serious. They have some good kids, like Boldy and Marco Rossi, to rely upon if needed at least.

You love to see that for the hometown kid. What a magical night for the start of what is going to be a great NHL career for Matt Boldy.
