Despite the good fight the Flyers put up against the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Orange and Black lost to the defending Cup Champs in a shootout earlier tonight. And yes, losing sucks but we still got a point and some thrilling extra hockey out of it. All of that thanks to Captain Claude Giroux.
Not only did this suave french bastard (affectionate) score an absolute filthy goal just 95 seasons into the game, he did that on arguably the best goaltender in the NHL.
I hadn’t even gotten the game on yet and he was embarrassing the Lightning with that beauty. Here’s the full video because that gif doesn’t do it justice.
Then flash forward to the dying seconds of the 3rd period, Tampa up 3-2. When all feels lost, he does it again. 8.1 seconds left, Giroux sends that sick little snipe to the back of the net and he enhances it with a sick celly too.
That gave the Flyers a fighting chance to OT. The team was electric there but nothing ended up coming of it. Into a shootout, the Flyers couldn’t get either shot past Vasilevsky meanwhile Steven Stamkos and Brayden Point (also see: bane of my existence) both scored so the Lightning take home the two points. Despite the loss, this was still a great game. The Flyers kept up well against the defending Cup Champs and their captain was right there leading them the whole way. Carter Hart also continues to excite as well. They’ll be playing the Bruins on Saturday night. That’ll be interesting considering the Bruins haven’t played all week. Like I said but at least we have Claude, a national icon.
