Hawks suck, their organization sucks. The Cubs suck, the Bears moderately suck, the Sox can kick rocks, and … well the Bulls are actually pretty good. But besides the point. Being a Chicago sports fan fuckin sucks right now. However, there is hope because there is one team that is currently kicking ass.
It’s the Chicago Steel.
Chicago’s USHL team that’s currently 1st in the Eastern Conference with a 9-3-2 record. 3 of their players are in the top 5 for scoring. They got 50 goals for and 38 against already.
Taking first in the USHL’s leaderboard is rookie Jackson Blake. He’s is leading the league with 19 points (6G 13A) in 14 games. The kid is an 18-year-old who plays right-wing and a Carolina Hurricanes 4th Round Draft pick. Behind him in 4th is Sam Lipkin, an 18-year-old left-winger with 16 points (7G 9A) in his first 13 games. The kid was taken by the Arizona Coyotes in the 7th round. He is also either a co-captain or alternate of this team (Twitter and Elite Prospects have different answers.) Lipkin scored his 6th and 7th goals earlier tonight in the Steel’s decimation of the Green Bay Gamblers.
Then in 5th, Adam Fantilli holds on with 15 points (7G 8A). He’s a center that’s just 17 so he has not been drafted into the NHL. He is committed to the University of Michigan and his older brother Luca is captain of the Steel. Lipkin is committed to Quinnipiac and Blake, North Dakota. In the wake of every other Chicago team sucking, I think we should all just become the biggest Steel fan. They’re killing it right now. They’ve got a solid roster of guys who are going to be in the NCAA within the next few years so we gotta prepare. Not to mention that their games are cheap, close to my house, and look like a ball. Their next game is tomorrow night at home versus Debuque, who is are right behind the Steel in the East with a 7-0-2 record and 18 points in the standings. The Steel are largely ahead right now with 14 games already played while everyone else has between 9-12. I’m going to find a way to watch and blog about it so hop on the Steel train now.
