Flyers Fall To Undefeated Panthers

Keith Yandle faced his old team tonight as the Panthers made a visit to Philly. The Flyers played well against the undefeated Panthers even though they lost 4-2.

Period one brought some troubles to the Flyers. The couldn’t get the wheels on the bus going offensively. They had some struggles applying their defense against the Panther’s speedy offense. Per usual, unnecessary penalties were a thorn in the Flyers’s side. This resulted in the Panthers taking a 1-0 lead out of the first.

The second period however was better to the Flyers. Sean Couturier helped Captain Claude Giroux get things flowing 4:23 into the second with a clapper past Bobrovsky.

Then 6 minutes later Cam Atkinson scored a shorty to make this game 1-2 Flyers headed into the second half of the middle frame.

Carter Hart did his best to keep the 2-1 lead for the remainder of the second however in the dying seconds Owen Tippett got the game tied 2-2. Flyers couldn’t muster anything up in the remaining seconds and took an unnecessary penalty so we went into this final 20 on the PK.

The Flyers had to kill that penalty and another. They were awarded a power play but that turned fatal as the Panthers scored a shorty. Hart had stopped the attempt initially but the rebound went in to make this 3-2 Panthers. Nate Thompson took a needless roughing penalty shortly after that. In the end the Flyers couldn’t get anything and got scored on with an empty net so this game finished 4-2 in favor of the Panthers.

Pro: The penalty kill is kickin’. Con: We need to stop taking so many stupid penalties. I knew the Panthers were going to be a challenge, they’re 5-0 with this win. The Flyers played well against them though, they kept up. We can’t win them all and losing to this team isn’t like losing to the Leafs or the Hawks. Cam Atkinson had another good one, same with Farabee. Hart did good, he stopped 27 of 30 shots. The Flyers have some days off before their next game. They’ll be playing the Oilers who are also 5-0. It’ll be another test for the Flyers, especially because McDavid is on one. I’m feelin’ good about this team though, they’re looking good for the start of the season. I’m looking forward to watching this season play out.
