New Guys Keep Flyers Bumping In 6-3 Win Over Boston

Oh baby, oh mama, I’m alive. Flyers just beat the Bruins 6-3 in a beauty of a game. The Flyers started off really strong. Cam Atkinson – who has been kicking ass so far – scooped his second of the season 8 minutes into the game. The Bruins did win one back after that but ultimately Joel “Young Beezer” Farabee gave us the lead with just 9 seconds remaining in the period. I thought the Flyers played well in the first 20 minutes. They were strong on Swayman, despite being outshot 10-7. They were looking great headed into the middle frame.

The second period, the Flyers played a bit more on their heels. Scott Laughton did get us a 3-1 lead just 2 minutes into the period on a sneaky little goal that went under Swayman’s pads. However the Bruins did come back with 2 goals before the end of the period to tie the game 3-3. Taylor Hall went on a break away and not for a single second did I have faith in Martin Jones to stop that. (No offense Jonesy). Brad Marchand was the one to tie it with a minute left in the period. It wasn’t a bad period for the Flyers but it wasn’t as sparky and controlling as the first for them.

They made up for that in the third however. Cam Atkinson got his second of the game just :58 seconds into the period. Travis Konecny got his 3rd goal of the season at the 11:17 mark. And to wrap this game in a neat little bow, Sean Couturier got the Flyers’s 6th goal on an empty net power play with :59 left in the game. This period was a lot like Monday’s game. Tempers were flaring, guys were throwing hits. It was lively for sure, the exact kind of play you’d expect from these two teams.

All round, I thought this was another solid game for the Flyers. They kept Swayman on his toes and got 5 of 24 shots past him. I thought the D looked good for the most part, they really helped out Martin Jones. And Jones himself, he was catching a lot of shit for being “old” and counted out– I think he did good tonight, he stopped 37 of 40 shots, the ones he missed weren’t solely on him. All around I thought it was another game where the Flyers looked real good. These new additions, like I said last blog, have been killer. Cam Atkinson has been fitting in fantastic, same with Derick Brassard, Keith Yandle, and Ryan Ellis. Would love to see improvements from Sanheim and Aube-Kubel for sure but other than that, it was another good game for the Flyers to start this season. The Flyers take on the undefeated Panthers on Saturday. I think if they keep their wits about them, don’t change too much, we should be a-okay. I still hesitate to say we’re back because I don’t want to be the one to jinx us but we’re on the road there.

I will be saying “Oh my God” like Keith Yandle for the next week though. Good luck to anyone who knows me.
