Big D Starts The Season With A Big W

Dallas started their season against the New York Rangers and it’s safe to say the kids are going to be alright.

Rookie Jacob Peterson started things off early with his first NHL goal in his first game. The kid was drafted 132nd overall in 2017, he’s 22 years old, he’s been doing great in Sweden. It was time to see if he was NHL ready and it’s safe to say he is.

Radek Faksa, ever a clutch scorer, got the Stars an additional goal 6:11 into the second on the power play. Faksa is always one of those sneaky, smart scorers. His name gets lost in the shuffle but if he’s starting off hot this season, that only means great things for Dallas’ future.

Of course in Dallas Stars hockey, all the glitters do not stay gold. Norris winner Adam Fox got the Rangers within one 2 minutes later. Seven minutes after that Chris Kreider gets things tied and that’s where we remain for all of regulation.

However, also in Dallas Stars fashion, a dramatic OT winner from our sweet baby boy Miro Heiskanen. What a fuckin’ animal. I could watch that takeaway and snipe on repeat. It’s insane to think that he’s going into his 4th season in Dallas. I feel like just yesterday he was the rookie sensation dazzling the NHL. Now he’s all grown up. A big 22-year old man (the author says as she is a month shy of her 22nd birthday and still feels like a 12-year-old), embarrassing the New York Rangers. Our baby boy is all grown up.

Starting with a win is amazing, as long as we don’t lose the next 7. I love how we played, especially Braden Holtby. In the preseason he looked comfortable out there and I think he did again tonight. I’m praying John Klingberg is going to be okay. He left the game early with a lower body injury. He is a huge part of this team and without him we’ll be down a big piece of the system.

Overall, great start to the season. Game 2 is against Boston at 6PM CT on Saturday, the 16th. The Bruins are normally a very great team but this will be their first game of the season so let’s see how it goes. I’m hoping for another clutch victory but hey the season is young.
