Ladies and gentlemen, there was a hockey game today.
The first preseason game kicked off today between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens. The Leafs ran away with this one. Jake Muzzin scored the Leafs’ first goal 10:28 into the first.
Then the second period started with a bang as captain John Tavares scored on the power play just 1:55 into the period.
Then Michael Bunting put up his own goal to get the score 3-0 before the end of the second. Also somehow, Mitch Marner was given an assist on this goal despite not even playing in the game.
Into the third, Kurtis Gabriel got himself a goal off a goalie error. Loving the celly and Pride tape.
The Habs did get one and it was a sick little slider into the net from Tyler Toffoli.
The Leafs won this one 4-1 AND they won the shootout practice. It is so nice to see hockey back. To get back in the swing of things, start breaking down teams and guessing how their season is going to go. I think Toronto played killer tonight. I liked Kurtis Gabriel, Josh Ho-Sang, and William Nylander through this one. Same with Tavares, he killed it.
This game was physical and I love to see that early in the year. You can tell these guys want to be out there and back playing. Not to mention, preseason or not, this rivalry is heated, especially following the playoffs last season. Kurtis Gabriel had been throwing bodies and punches.
Overall great start to the preseason. We have so many games on tomorrow, I cannot wait to sit on my ass and watch so much hockey that I see it when I close my eyes.
