With a 4-1 win over Vegas tonight, the Montreal Canadiens have taken a 3-2 lead in this Stanley Cup Semi-Final. They are just one win away from the Stanley Cup Finals. Blare that Celebratory Celine.
This was a stellar game for the club. Jesperi Kotkaniemi got the Habs going with a goal at 8:45 into the first. That really gave them the boost they needed to get this game goin’. Their second period was phenomenal, IMO. Eric Staal got his second of the playoffs 6:32 into the period. Then who else but Corey Perry and Cole Caufield to come in and score this beauty. A sick goal from a pair that have a 15 year age gap between them.
Max Pacioretty came in and scored one for the Golden Knights 4 minutes into the 3rd period. Vegas did have some life here but nothing they could do anything with. Nick Suzuki put their hopes to bed with an empty net goal before the end of the game.
This was the exact game Montreal needed to have. I said in my last blog that this game is do or die for Montreal and how huge it will be for them to take this win from Vegas at their home — and boom, I was right. The bright lights and shiny signs of Vegas didn’t phase the Habs. They went in and took control, just like they needed to do. Carey Price was outstanding, per usual. Love to see scrappy Brendan Gallagher out there. I want to see this again in Montreal on Thursday. I wonder if Vegas will keep Marc-Andre Fleury in net for Game 6 or if they will go with Robin Lehner. Not too sure but regardless I am ready for the Habs to kick some ass while I jam to celebratory Celine. Positive vibes only, go Habs go.
