I said on Thursday, let’s just worry about Saturday and oooooh boy did the Isles put some of my worries to rest. Tonight, the Islanders beat the Lightning 3-2 to tie this series up 2-2.
After a scoreless first period, the second period was crucial for the Islanders. They opened the scoring with a goal from Josh Bailey, his 6th of the playoffs. Bailey has been massive to this team’s success so far so no surprise he got them going. He scored that one 5:30 into the 2nd and then Mathew Barzal scooped his own at 13:46. Next up, Matt Martin got his first of the playoffs at 17:57. Also should note that Cal Clutterbuck and Adam Pelech had assists on both goals late in the second. That’s an important 3 goal period for them. They needed to take some control over Tampa if they want to win. A 3 goal period is a great way to do that.
The Lightning got 2 back in the 3rd period. Of course Point got one at 3:45, then Tyler Johnson gave them another at 6:43. Luckily, the Islanders kept them out of the net for those remaining 13 minutes. I think every guy on the Isle’s roster owes Ryan Pulock a few beers after his save at the last second. Without him, who the hell knows what would have happened in OT.
Absolute Insanity.
This series has been ridiculous so far, it’s bound to go 7 games and the Islanders aren’t giving up the fight. Their next game is Monday at 7PM CT. I’d love to see Mat Barzal really awaken and turn into a demon out there. Same with the recently returned Jean-Gabriel Pageau. They’ve done well keeping the Lightning on their toes. They’re not letting them walk all over them so I’m excited to see this series moving forward. Go Islanders.
