What bizarro timeline did we walk into?
On May 25th, the Montreal Canadiens were just one loss away from being eliminated in the Stanley Cup Playoffs by the Toronto Maple Leafs. Now on June 6th, after flipping the series, eliminating the Leafs and dominating the Jets, the Habs are just one (1) win away from sweeping the Winnipeg Jets. The Habs have won their last 6 games since that near elimination and it’s been astounding to watch. Tonight, they put an absolute clinic on the Jets with a 5-1 win. Before we get into the game, here’s a fun little fact:
Bananalands stat. Now, Game 3.
Corey Perry, who is a playoff God, scored the first of the game early in the first period. Then the Canadiens came back with 2 more goals in the early second (9:24 and 13:41) from Artturi Lehkonen and Joel Armia. Armia’s was also a shorthanded goal. Adam Lowry got one back for the Jets about 5 minutes after Armia’s goal but that would be all for the Jets tonight.
Nick Suzuki linked with Cole Caufield on the power play and they scored an absolute beauty in the third. Then Joel Armia got his second shorty of the night to finish the scoring. You can watch all those big plays and goals here:
The Habs really have been an offensive powerhouse so far. They beat the Jets 5-3 in Game 1 but then 1-0 in Game 2. Now they’re back up and with Carey Price in net, they’re a recipe for success. Price has been amazing all playoffs. Today he only let in 1 shot of the 27 he faced. With him at this level, the rest of the gang doesn’t have to worry too much about the net. They can go take chances if the need too and that wins games.
Game 4 will go down on Monday night, tomorrow night, and I’d like to see the Habs sweep the Jets. I’ve talked about my indifference to the Jets a few times so to see them swept by the Habs would be a delight. Plus, how insane would it be to watch Montreal go from down 3-1 in a series against the Leafs to winning 7 straight to make the 3rd Round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs? I’m personally on team chaos so let’s light this tank and go, babes.
