The Secret Cup is so close I can taste it.
Team Adidas killed it in the first game of this weekend’s St. Louis Showcase and you can bet your pie that they’re going to do the same thing again tomorrow night. This first game happened at noon CT today and it had a bit of a slow start. No goals in the first period – not shocking considering it’s been a month since these teams have played. At the tail end, Team Adidas scored but the goal was waved off for high sticking.
Into the second, we get cookin’. Team Adidas got on the board first with a shortie from Dani Cameranesi 6 minutes into the second. Kelly Pannek and Lee Stecklein picked up the assists.
Amanda Kessel got Team WSF within one with just 5 minutes left in the period. Hayley Scamurra and Brianna Decker picked up the assists on this one.
Into the 3rd, team Adidas took the reins and finished their win. Sydney Brodt gave them the lead 5 minutes in. Both Pannek and Cameranesi picked up additional points on the assists.
Kelly Pannek finished her night with an empty net goal and the secured W for Team Adidas.
Shock to no one that Kelly Pannek got the first star of the game, seeing as she had 3 points. Dani Cameranesi was 2nd star (goal and assist), and Brianna Decker scooped the 3rd star (1 assaist). Nicole Hensley, Adidas’s goalie, played a great game too with 25 saves on 26 shots.
With that Team Adidas has another W in the books and 3 points in the standings (the win is 2 points and the shortie was worth 1). They now lead Team WSF 11-2 in the standings as they head into the Championship games tomorrow night. It’s clear as day that Team Adidas will be taking home the American Secret Dream Gap Tour Trophy. With is offense, the stellar goaltending, it’s written in the stars, babes. The final game of this America series kicks off tomorrow night at 6PM CT. You can watch it on CBC Sports and YouTube!
