What A Night In Colorado

The Colorado Avalanche aren’t quite finished with their regular season just yet. The Avs, a favorite to win the Cup this year, had a stellar game back in their home arena where they beat out the LA Kings in an astounding 6-0 game.

For starters, the Avs got Sammy Girard back after a while off the ice with injury. Sammy’s dog was actually the first to break the news. It was later confirmed by Coach Jared Bednar that Sam would be returning for tonight’s game – which so happened to fall on his 25th birthday.

This game was also Cale Makar’s 100th NHL game. Seems like just yesterday we were counting down the minute until he officially hit the NHL ice in the playoffs. Now, he’s already 100 deep with 93 points. Absolutely bananas.

Now onto the game.

From the get go, this team was cooking with gas. They started with 3 goals in the first period. Those 3 came from Joonas Donskoi (14:43), Pierre-Edouard Bellemare (16:02), and J.T. Compher (19:15). In those 20 minutes alone, the Avs put up 14 shots on goal while the Kings had just 3. They also went 1 for 2 on the powerplay.

In the second they turned around and did it again. Another 3 goals in those 20. The first was J.T. Compher’s 2nd of the game (4:16), next up Captain Gabe Landeskog for his 20th goal of the season (10:03), and the scoring was capped off with another J.T. Compher goal (11:47). Those last two are big ones. Compher’s 2 goals in the period completed his first NHL career hatty. You love to see that for a kid that has worked his bag off with this team for so long.

Then Captain Landy’s 20th set him up with his 8th season where he’s had at least 20 goals on the board. The Avs put up 13 more shots in the 2nd while the Kings put up another 8 shots but remained at 0 goals.

The 3rd period ended up remaining scoreless for both teams. The Avs added another 10 shots and the Kings 7 but Philipp Grubauer was feelin it tonight and he posted a shutout. In total, Grub faced 18 shots and kept every single one out of his net.

Great night for the Avs, especially heading into the final game of the regular season tomorrow night. They had all but 3 forwards get a point. Sammy G did have an assist in his return. Overall, awesome time to be an Avs fan. They are still on the hunt for the President’s Trophy as they head into playoffs.
