The kids had quite the night out in Washington. Not only did Cam York make his NHL debut tonight with the Philadelphia Flyers, but fellow rookie Wade Allison put on a little show against the Capitals.
Let’s start with York. The 20-year-old is just coming off an amazing final season with the University of Michigan where he played 24 games with 20 points (4G 16A) and a +13 rating. In the mist of that, he went off to World Juniors where he won the gold medal for Team USA, in those 7 games he wore the C and had 6 points (1G 5A). His college career ended on a sour note when Michigan was eliminated before the NCAA Championship due to positive COVID tests. Regardless, he headed over to the AHL and put up 5 points (2G 3A) in the first 6 games. Then in his NHL debut tonight, he had played 20:59 with a shot on goal.
I’m excited for what he is going to bring to Philly. He’s a kickass player and he was great in his first game. Cheers bud!
Now onto Wade Allison’s goals. This kid has been doing well in his rookie season. Wade played in his 12th NHL game tonight and he had a wonderful showing. In the first 11, he put up 2 goals with an assist for 3 points while averaging 12:52 per game. Tonight, he floored it and scored 2 goals in the 14:06 he was out on the ice. Both of them were sick little snipes on the net (especially that backhand baseball one).
Sick flow, sick cellies, sick player. The kids have been great in Philly so far.
Although it sucks they’re already out of the playoffs, I think it’s better to have a break and try to start off strong next season. I couldn’t imagine this team making it through a playoff round so it’s better to just wash this season and focus on the next. Regardless, a W is a W so I will gladly take this one and move onto the next.
