Someone just needs to play the TikTok audio that goes “this mothafucka don’t miss” every time Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner score because these mothafuckas really don’t miss. That should be their theme song actually.
Last night the Leafs clinched their playoff spot and I kudos’d Matthews on his insane goal. Well roll the tape back because we’re doing it again. Matthews’ scored his 36th goal of the season with this sick little snipe:
That was Matthews’s 60th point of the season, in just 46 games played. This is the 5th consecutive season that Matthews has hit 60 points, insane because the guy is just 23-years-old and playing in his 5th NHL season. This was also his 11th GWG in the season – the second most in Leafs history.
The crazy part is that even with Matthews lighting it up, it’s like they have a little clone of him in Mitch Marner. Marner had 2 points tonight – a sick steal of a goal in the 3rd and an assist on Matthews’s goal. Mitch now has 18 goals and 44 assists for 62 points in 50 games. Just like Matthews, this is Marner’s 5th consecutive season hitting 60 points and he’s only been playing for 5 seasons.
I can’t wait to watch these kids play a full season again because they’re going to blow it out of the water. I said yesterday that the Leafs will be fun to watch in playoffs and if they keep these highs going, it’s going to be even better than I thought.
