Eric Staal had a big night of firsts.
Staal was traded from the Buffalo Sabres to the Montreal Canadiens on March 26th. Because he had to cross the US/Canadian boarder, he’s been in quarantine for the 3 games Montreal has played. Well tonight Staal had his first start with the Habs and it went pretty damn well.
He played 16:56 in total with 2 PIMs, 2 shots on net, a 78% win percentage at the dot, and arguably the most important goal in the game.
Sick lil snipe to end your first game with a team on the right note, niiiice. Staal’s appearance has come at a dire time for the team. Sure, they needed an extra boost to their lineup but now they’re going to be without Brendan Gallagher for quite a while as he left the game early with a broken thumb.
The Habs don’t play again until Wednesday against the Maple Leafs.
