This roster is *chef’s kiss* beautiful. It’s a perfect mix of returning players we all know and love with a few talented newbies sprinkled in.
Looking at this roster, I can give you a thesis on each player and how great they are but we sadly do not have time for that. So let’s run through some of the returning players.
At the last IIHF Women’s World Championships in 2019, Team US won gold, plenty of those players have returned to try and grab another. That includes forwards Hannah Brandt, Sydney Brodt, Dani Cameranesi, Alex Carpenter, Jesse Compher, Kendall Coyne Schofield, Brianna Decker, Amanda Kessel, Hilary Knight, Kelly Pannek, and Hayley Scamurra. Then you have defenseman such as Cayla Barnes, Kacey Bellamy, Megan Bozek, Megan Keller, and Lee Stecklein and goaltender Alex Cavallini (Rigsby).
This team won gold for a reason. They were all absolute stunners and although they’ve lost some key players – like Annie Pankowski (sadness) – they picked some stellar replacements. New to this competition will be forwards Britta Curl, Abby Roque, and Grace Zumwinkle. Then for the defensemen they grabbed Natalie Buchbinder, Savannah Harmon, and Caroline Harvey with goaltenders Aerin Frankel and Nicole Hensley.
I mean it when I say this team is going to the god damn moon. The forwards they’ve added are stunners. I’ve talked countess times about how much I love Abby Roque and how phenomenal Grace Zumwinkle is. 3 of these players (Curl, Buchbiner, and Harvey) are coming off a NCAA Championship victory with the University of Wisconsin. Goalie Aerin Frankel did amazing in her time with Northeastern. There’s so many well known players but they did great bringing in fresh talent to replace what they lost.
The team is heading up yo Portland, Maine from April 16th to the 23rd for their training camp before setting out to the Championships. We’ll get goal there too. Now cue the “Oh momma don’t you cry.”
