RIP to the city of Buffalo because my loooord. With a 5-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins earlier this evening, the Sabres’s losing skid is now at 15 games, a record in the modern era NHL. The last time the Sabres won a game? February 23rd, a 5-1 W over the New Jersey Devils.
At this point it’s really sad to watch but you can’t look away. They’re 6-21-4 in 31 total games and no player on their team has more that 22 points. They’re 31st in the NHL with goals for (64) and tied fifth in goals against (109). It’s astounding because looking at this roster you’d think “oh this team is probably not half bad” and then you watch them play and it’s the team you thought of but they’re shot in the kneecaps and can’t pass the puck without causing a turnover or getting scored on.
I’ll be honest, I don’t think they’re going to get any better from here and I’ll put money on a number of players walking this off-season. Yet, I don’t think that’s a horrible thing. If it’s so broken that watching the games is like watching a car wreck, then clear house and focus on the young guys you got. The game tonight was part one of a back-to-back so they’ll play the Penguins again tomorrow night. Please send me your bets on how many games you think this streak will continue for. Imma say that hit 20.
