It is tiiiiime for the NCAA Women’s Hockey National Championship!
Tonight at 6:30PM CT, the Wisconsin Badgers will take on the the Northeastern Huskies for the 2021 NCAA Championship title. Before the season started I did my preseason predictions, nailed it with these two teams finishing 1-2, and now they’re onto the Final. Wisconsin lived up to the expectations this season and kicked ass. Overall this season the Badgers went 16-3-1-0 and they’ve won their last 5 games. As for Northeastern, they went 22-1-1 and they’re on an 18 game win streak. Regardless of the outcome, this game is going to be a high scoring duel until the end. The players that are going to dominate headlines tonight will be Daryl Watts and Sophie Shirley of Wisconsin and Alina Mueller and Skylar Fontaine of Northeastern.
Watts and Shirley have been a dynamic one-two punch for Wisconsin. Watts, a senior, has put up 31 points (17G 14A) in 18 games. Shirley, a junior, has 22 points (10G 12A) in 18 games. They’re absolutely lights out most nights so be sure to keep on eye on them during this match. Then for Northeastern, no one plays quite like Alina Mueller. Mueller has put up 37 points (12G 25A) in 24 games played. She’s a stunner to watch. As for Skylar Fontaine, the Badgers want to stay out of the box because Fontaine is deadly on the power play. She’s put up 30 points (14G 16A) in 24 games and 6 of her goals came on the power play.
Like I said earlier, this game is going to be phenomenal and I can’t wait for the outcome. Personally, I’m from Illinois (and an Iowa Hawkeyes fan) therefore it’s in my blood to go against Wisconsin so I’ll take Northeastern in this bout.
