Another big game means another big win for the PWHPA’s Team Minnesota. Today, the PWHPA took over the United Center in Chicago with an absolutely brilliant game.
Let’s start from the top.
Abby Roque, All-Star rookie for Team Minnesota, started the scoring with a smart rebound shot in front of the net. After her, Maddie Rolfes put another goal on the board for Team Minnesota before the end of the first period.
Into the second period, we had my favorite goal of the day. Kendall Coyne Schofield, a hockey hero who grew up not too far from where I’m at, scored a snipe to give Minnesota a 3-0 lead. Being a hockey kid form suburban Chicago, it’s almost everyone’s dream to score a goal on the UC ice. It’s where our love for hockey was kindled and grown. So to see Kendall Coyne Schofield score that goal — I got a little teary eyed.
Later in the 3rd, Abby Roque did it again and scored Team Minnesota’s 4th goal of the game on an empty net. Roque is such a clutch player. She’s got 4 goals in her first 3 pro-games. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, this girl is going to be a legend.
Team New Hampshire scored a lone goal from Brianna Decker with just 10 seconds remaining in the game. You can see the “damnit” look on Nicole Hensley’s face after the goal went in. She was just 10 second from an astounding shutout.
Overall, amazing game from these two teams. They’re building up a serious rivalry between them. They have another game tomorrow and hopefully Team Minnesota can finish this out with a win. Now is the time to hop on this team’s bandwagon. They’ve got insanely talented forwards and strong goaltenders. Goaltender Nicole Hensley had 50 saves in 59 minutes. She only allowed one goal. Then you got players like Roque and Coyne who are so god damn good. They’re such a joy to watch so if you want a PWHPA team to root for, it’s this one.
As I said, these two will play tomorrow at 10:30AM and you can watch it on the CBC GEM app, CBCSPORTS.CA, CBC SPORTS APP. Be sure to watch that exciting one.
Lastly, I’d like to add that this mask should be put in the Chicago Sports Museum. Look at how beautiful it is.
