University of Michigan freshman Matty Beniers just put up his first collegiate hat trick in his 19th game.
Heading into this game, Beniers had 16 points (6G 10A) in the first 18 games, not to mention the 3 points (1G 2A) he had in the 7 games at World Juniors that ended with a Gold Medal around his neck. Almost all his goals this season have been highlight reel material. The kid is so sick. Let’s run through his hatty goals:
First, goal #1 came 18 minutes into the first period. A nice wait and tap in off a Owen Power pass.
Second, goal #2 is a certified beauty. A knee-down shot next to the net but this time he had some help from Kent Johnson.
Last but not least goal #3 was a snipe right past the goaltender. Flyyyyying down the ice, ASU don’t stand a chance. This man was on a mission.
He could have had a natty Matty hatty but ASU ruined the natural hat trick by scoring a goal between the 2nd and 3rd goal. Instead we have a Matty hatty, still an amazing feat. This kid has really impressed me this season. He hasn’t been drafted yet (eligible in 2021) but I sure as hell want him on one of my teams. He’ll go top 10 for sure, I’d say Top 5 if he continues to produce and play at this level.
