After 16 seasons in the NHL, Mikko Koivu has announced that he is hanging up the skates.
Koivu was drafted 6th overall by the Minnesota Wild back in 2001 and he went on to become a stud in their organization for many years. He played in 1,028 games with the Wild and put up 205 NHL goals with 504 assists for 709 points, even spent a few years there as Captain. He then signed with Columbus just this past off-season and played 7 games with 2 points (a goal and an assist) before hanging them up.
Koivu had an amazing career in the NHL and it’s sad to see him go. I hope he has many happy years in retirement.
