Matthews Hits 300 Career Points as Leafs Keep The Streaks Going

With the game-winning goal in the 3rd period against the Canucks, Auston Matthews has hit 300 career points. The 23-year-old is the 2nd youngest Maple Leaf to ever do it and it only took him 294 NHL games. Matthews has been hot to start this season with 15 points (11G 4A) in 12 games. Tonight’s goal also continued his scoring streak to 8 games.

Mitch Marner picked up an assist on Matthews’ goal and that extended his point-streak to 8 games. I think Matthews and Marner will both keep their streaks going for a while, maybe even set some more records while they’re at it.

The kids are doing pretty damn good in Toronto and it’s making this team fun to watch. They’re atop of the NHL with a 10-2-1 record and 21 points in the standings. They’ve had a lot of rough times in Toronto but they’re really clicking now. Even this season they’ve had to deal with a lot of injuries to top veteran players but they’re still battling through it and pulling out win after win. They just wiped the floor with the Canucks (less so today but still) and they’ll be moving onto the Canadians next, then the Senators. These next few games are bound to be high scoring and entertaining as hell so be sure to tune in.
