Heeeellll yeah, that’s my centre! Yesterday, team Canada announced their team’s leaders for the World Juniors and who they picked was no surprise.
Kirby Dach, 19-year-old centre for the Chicago Blackhawks, was named Captain of Team Canada with Bowen Byram and Dylan Cozens as his ‘A’s. Byram is a 19-year-old defenseman and prospect for the Colorado Avalanche. Cozens is a 19-year-old forward and prospect for the Buffalo Sabres.
Dach makes a whole lot of sense considering he’s absolutely killing it in the NHL and he’s been looking up to one of the best captains there has ever been in Jonathan Toews. Dach talked about that in an interview:
Love that boy, so happy for him. Canada is a stacked roster so I think they’ll do good in the tournament. I’ll always root for the US against them but other than that, I think they’ll be a dominant team and someone to watch out for.
I’ll leave you with this adorable video (listen, it’s nice to see people’s dreams come true and their happiness is contagious).
