The NHL could poooossibly be back January 13th but I’m not putting heavy stock in this. I haven’t exactly been covering all the NHL/NHLPA talks because that would repetitive. Things change quick every day and although this seems like it has a legit chance, I’m not putting stock in it. Things aren’t better in the US COVID-numbers-wise, we’ve seen multiple players and teams with the World Juniors or colleges get shut down for a while because of positive tests. Even if players start getting together early in January for training camps, there’s still a big change of said camp getting shut down because someone has ‘Rona.
The 13th is 39 days away, I don’t think the NHL can get everything together by then for a safe season to start. They can try to start camps but I’d be willing to bet money that at least one is shut down. A February season start? Sure, I can see that. But I don’t think this quick. I want NHL hockey back, I miss it a lot and I know I’m not the only one but I’m not getting my hopes up.
In the meantime, the NWHL starts their bubble season on January 23rd so you can catch hockey there. There’s also college hockey (men’s and women’s) so check that out as well.
