It’s turkey day in the US and there’s plenty to be thankful for but I’m extra thankful for the 2015-2016 Boston Pride.
Was there any team sicker than the 2015-2016 Boston Pride? Stacked to the gills, this team had Hilary Knight, Brianna Decker, Jordan Smelker, Jilian Dempsey, Gigi Marvin, Kacey Bellamy, and Amanda Pelkey. Count in young Blake Bolden, Alyssa Gagliardi, Corinne Buie, and Rachel Llanes. Then they had Brittany Ott in net to start them off. That’s an All-Star team right there. Most of them had NCAA championships and Olympic medals under their belt.
Knight finished the season with 33 points (15G 18A) in 17 games. She was co-captain with Brianna Decker, who had 29 points (14G 15A) in 16 games. They finished with the first ever Isobel Cup in NWHL history following a 14-3-1 season. Their team was so dominant on the ice, they could have made up a new Team North America.
Most of these players have moved onto different leagues and jobs but their might never be a team as killer as they were. The Pride are still a stacked team, they went 23-1 last season, but there was nothing quite like that 2015-2016 team. So while stuffing my faced with mashed potatoes, I’ll pour one out for Hilary Knight and the old NWHL days.
