The Minnesota Whitecaps made a big splash this morning by re-signing Winny Brodt, Stephanie Anderson, and Lisa Martinson.
First, let’s quickly talk about Stephanie Anderson and Lisa Martinson. Anderson is a 27-year-old winger who is coming back for her 2nd season in the NWHL. She played in 22 games with the Whitecaps last year and put up 10 points (4G 6A). Now Martinson is a 29-year-old defenseman who is going on her 4th season with the Whitecaps (3rd with the NWHL). She played in 18 games last season with 8 points (1G 7A) and a +16.
Now, both of them are essential to the Whitecaps success but the biggest re-signing here is the ‘Caps 42-year-old captain Winny Brodt-Brown. Winny has been with the Whitecaps since 2004, when they were independent, and she’s been a great leader for them ever since. She seems set on getting another Cup before hanging up the skates. Winny is chasing her 2nd Isobel Cup, which the team should have grabbed were the Final not cancelled due to ‘Rona. As a Midwesterner, I am loyal to the Whitecaps so I am very excited for them to chase another Isobel Cup this year.
The NWHL will be back for a 20 game season in January. Roooooll Caps!
